The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis has acquired a major recent work by artist and activist Ai Weiwei. Titled “Illumination” (2019), the piece reconstructs, in colorful Lego blocks, an iconic selfie the artist took during his 2009 arrest in Chengdu, China.
“Lest We Forget,” a public art installation by noted Italian-German photographer Luigi Toscano, will open Oct. 20 in Tisch Park at Washington University in St. Louis. The exhibition will feature nearly 100 large-scale portraits of Holocaust survivors, including 12 whom Toscano photographed in St. Louis.
The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis will host a press preview of the exhibition "Katharina Grosse Studio Paintings, 1988-2022: Returns, Revisions, Inventions" at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22. The exhibition opens to the public the following evening.
