KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Monday paid rich tributes to women and reaffirmed to end violence and discrimination against them to mark the International Women’s Day.

The resolutions were moved by Women Development Minister Syeda Shehla Raza, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s Rana Ansar and Mohammad Hussain Khan and Adeeba Hassan of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.
The resolution moved by Shehla Raza reads, “On the eve of International Women’s Day, this house reaffirms the commitment to end all kinds of discrimination and violence against women and pursue policies that guarantee fundamental human rights for women.”

Provincial Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh announced in Sindh Assembly on Thursday that the provincial government is ready to take on power utility companies for their failure to supply electricity in the province.
Addressing the house, Shaikh referred to the hourslong loadshedding in various districts of Sindh and said, “Power companies have made the life of people miserable.” He added that the Sindh government itself is not generating the power, but is involved in mining of coal in Thar.

Speaking on multiple occasions on the day, Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi claimed that the opposition, by holding PDM rallies, was expecting to be granted a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)-like deal, accusing the ministers from opposition parties of using resources from the national treasury for luxuries.
