PESHAWAR: The police department is observing Youm-i-Shuhada on Wednesday (today) to commemorate the sacrifices of its 1,522 men and women, who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Breakdown of police losses in two decades of war against terrorism showed that a total of 1,522 personnel of the force embraced martyrdom from 2000 to 2021 while 186 officials lost their lives from 1970 to 2000. Besides, a total of 1,722 police personnel were wounded in incidents of terrorism from 2000 to 2021.

PESHAWAR: A contingent of the Peshawar Police presented salute to the grave of constable Khadim Hussain in Matani as two young sons of the martyr offered fateha and showered rose petals to pay tributes to the fallen hero of the KP Police.
Khadim Hussain is one of 1,508 policemen of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who were martyred since 2000.“Khadim Hussain was martyred when armed men targeted him a couple of years ago. I, along with my officers, are here at his grave to pay our tributes to the martyr and tell the public that we remember our heroes,” Waqar Ahmad, superintendent of police, Saddar, Peshawar, told The News.
1,505 policemen martyred in KP since 2000

PESHAWAR: As many as 1505 policemen were martyred in suicide attacks, blasts, target killings, ambushes and encounters while performing duty in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last 21 years.
On the other hand, 285 policemen had lost lives in different incidents in KP from 1970 till 1999. Some reports said the number was 246. The figure, however, suddenly increased manifold from 2000 to 2021.
“As many as 1,505 policemen were martyred in suicide attacks, bomb blasts, target killings, encounters and ambushes from 2000 to date,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG) (Coordination ) Arif Shahbaz Wazir told The News.
Those who were martyred during the last almost 12 years included two additional inspectors general of police (Ad IGs), two deputy inspectors general of police (DIGs), six superintendents of police (SPs), one SSP and 17 acting SPs or DSPs.
