The latest studies conducted by the Ministry of Health and Sultan Qaboos University on the prevalence of hereditary blood diseases showed that 5.7 percent of the population of the Sultanate carry a gene for sickle cell anemia and 2.61 percent carry a gene for thalassemia (B), while it showed that more than one percent of those carry a gene for other sickle.
Vaccination drive in Armed Forces begins

Muscat: Vaccination against COVID-19 was started on Thursday in the Sultan s Armed Forces as part of the national campaign for vaccination.
A statement issued online by the Ministry of Defense said, ”The medical services of the armed forces began this morning to activate the vaccination plan against the virus, at Al Khoudh Armed Forces Hospital. Where the priorities of the target groups were set, including workers in the health sector in the medical services, who deal directly with patients suspected of being infected with the virus, based on the approved distribution plan and in coordination with the Ministry of Health.”
