Tanzanian giants Simba SC moved a step closer to the quarter finals of the Total CAF Champions League after beating Sudanâs El Merrikh 3-0 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
First half goals from Luis Miquissone and skipper Mohammed Hussein coupled with a second half strike from Chris Mugalu handed the home side three vital points and a ninth consecutive unbeaten match on home soil in the continental competition.

Defending champions Al Ahly scored all the goals in the second half as they saw off Sudanese champions Al Mereikh 3-0 at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday to start their Total CAF Champions League group stage campaign in emphatic fashion.
Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Walter Bwalya and Mahmoud Kahraba scored the goals as the home side moved top of the group ahead of Tanzanian champions Simba on goal difference.

Ahly had most of the chances and would feel aggrieved going back to the dressing room for the break without a goal. They had the chances to score, but a combination of unlucky finishing and good goalkeeping from Monged Salman kept them at bay.

A Saifeldin Bakhit hat-trick earned Al Merrikh of Sudan a 3-0 midweek victory over Enyimba of Nigeria in the biggest upset of the CAF Champions League last 32 first legs.
While Sudanese clubs are often formidable at home in sauna-like conditions, even the most partisan supporters of the club could not have envisioned such a wide winning margin.
History offers Enyimba a glimmer of hope, though, as Simba of Tanzania lost by four goals at home to Mufulira Wanderers of Zambia in 1979 only to win the return match by five goals.
