•   The Chicago Bears’ six-game season in September and October was fueled by a defense playing with its hair on fire and an offense scraping by with a healthy bit of good fortune. A six-game season from the end of October through early December followed. That football season featured a bad offense, failure in executing fundamentals, and every red flag that called for change imaginable. Now we’re in a stretch where the offense looks good, the defense appears to be reeling, and a push for...

Bears focused on avoiding letdown against Jaguars By GENE CHAMBERLAINDecember 21, 2020 GMT LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Forget about draft position and postseason chances. Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy is expecting a challenge when his team visits lowly Jacksonville. Chicago stayed in the playoff race with a 33-27 victory at Minnesota on Sunday, evening its record at 7-7. The Bears have won two in a row since a six-game losing streak, while the Jaguars (1-13) are in the lead in the race for the N...

"We had a feeling coming out of the bye," said Nagy, "that health-wise and then position-wise, putting these guys in these spots is whats best for this offense, not just in the run game but in the pass game as well. And I think that [offensive line coach] Juan Castillo [working] with these guys and [assistant line coach] Donovan Raiola, just working to their strengths and then keeping that consistency with schematics of what we want to do has been really good." The moves are well-documented. Fi...

Dec 21, 2020 Their defense has been gutted and struggled through big chunks of this season. Yet, denying progress made by the Bears on offense in their 33-27 victory Sunday over the Vikings based on the inadequacies of an opponent fails to recognize reality.  The Bears have found their offensive identity. "We have more of an identity right now," quarterback Mitchell Trubisky said. "It starts with running the football and then the play-action, movement game that comes off that and just being ef...

Stephen Maturen, Getty The Bears’ success since coach Matt Nagy retooled the offense to emphasize Mitch Trubisky’s strengths has been a revelation — for this franchise, anyway. An offense that ranked 31st in scoring only four wee...

Nam Y. Huh, AP Photos Bears quarterback Nick Foles — remember him? — came inches away from being a hero against the Vikings on Nov. 16 at Soldier Field. With an opportunity to make the most of his worst game with the Bears, on a fourth-and-five from the Vikings’ 35-yard line with the Bears trailing 19-13, Foles stepped up in the pocket and lofted a pass downfield that went off receiver Anthony Miller’s fingertips inside the 5. A completion would have put the Bears near the goal li...

Theyll face a more difficult challenge against the Vikings, who have won five of seven games since a 1-5 start. With Minnesota winning the first meeting between the teams Nov. 16 in Chicago, a victory Sunday would give the Vikings a one-game lead and the tiebreaker over the Bears with two games remaining in the season. That makes Sundays contest a virtual elimination game for coach Matt Nagys team, though the Bears still could qualify for the playoffs even if they lose in Minnesota. With identi...
