At present, Khan is lodged in Sitapur jail. Last October, a Rampur court sentenced him, his son and former MLA Abdullah Azam Khan, and wife Tanzeen Fatima to seven years of imprisonment for the alleged forgery of Abdullah’s birth certificate.
It was revealed that Azam Khan's first birth certificate was issued on January 1, 1993, while the other certificate, created in Lucknow, listed his birthdate as September 30, 1990.
The Allahabad High Court has issued a notice to the Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan in the Uttar Pradesh Government s appeal challenging an order of the Rampur Court acquitting Khan (in May the year).
