New Delhi:Â In the first assembly elections held since the demise of former chief minister and AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa, the fight in Tamil Nadu this time is between the ruling alliance of AIADMK-BJP-PMK and the opposition DMK-Congress coalition.
Apart from the two main alliances, there were three other major political parties that contested these polls, with two of them fighting as an alliance.

The elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly provide an opportunity to reassess the fault lines in the caste, religious and ethno-geographical identities in the state and their significance in electoral politics.
Elections to the legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu were held in a single phase on 6 April 2021 with a voter turnout of 72.78%. With the counting of votes scheduled to take place on 2 May 2021, the electoral prospects of various parties and alliances are in the fray.
Some of the key pre-poll formations for the 2021 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu include:
i. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and including S Ramadoss’s Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and others;

A special court for cases against MP and MLAs in Chennai convicted actor couple Ramanathan Sarathkumar and Radhika and one more person in a 2018 cheque bounce case and sentenced them to one-year rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday. In addition, the court has also imposed a penalty of Rs. 5 crores in connection with the case.
The case pertains to Radiance Media Private Ltd. Moving filing a plea alleging that Magic Frames company, where Sarathkumar, Radhika and Listin Stephen are partners, had borrowed Rs. 1.50 crore and had issued two cheques. Subsequently, Sarath had taken another loan of Rs. 50 lakhs from Radiance Media and in return, he had issued five cheques for Rs. 10 lakh each. When the cheques were presented for realisation, they all bounced.

The couple move special court seeing suspension of sentence
The Additional Special Court for Trial of cases related to Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, on Wednesday sentenced Samathuva Makkal Katchi leader Sarath Kumar and his actor-wife Radhikaa Sarath Kumar to one year rigorous imprisonment, in each of seven cheque bounce cases filed separately against them, and also directed them pay ₹3.3 crore as compensation to the complainant. The sentence will run concurrently.

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 5 (ANI): A day before Tamil Nadu is scheduled for polling, actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan on Monday said he will give up his acting career if it will pose a hurdle in his political career.
Addressing media in Coimbatore, Hassan said he will finish the movies that he had already signed. Acting is my profession. I will continue to work in the cinema. But if it poses a hurdle for my political career, I will give it up. I will finish movies that I signed earlier and then think about taking new assignments, he said.
