Nine days from today onwards is the deadline set by Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to resolve the issue of Maratha reservation besides the demands being made by the community. If no solution is in sight, the descendant of much-revered Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj from Kolhapur will announce his next move from the historic Raigad Fort on June 6, the day of coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Addressing the much-publicised presser in Mumbai on Friday, Sambhajiraje, refrained from announcing his resignation from the Rajya Sabha, the berth given to him by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) five years ago. Instead, he said, he is ready to resign if it was going to solve the issue of reservation. Another important issue he touched upon was the formation of a new political party. âIf it is the wish of all (those who are fighting for the cause) a ne

The Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Maharashtra government’s law granting reservation benefits to the Maratha community has stirred up the hornet’s nest among the community and has put the Uddhav Thackeray government in a tight spot.
Various Maratha organisations are gearing up for agitations and blamed the State government for failing to present the case before the Apex Court. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray issued a statement saying that the verdict was unfortunate. BJP leaders castigated Thackeray for “failing” to protect the reservation.
Thackeray’s request
“A request with folded hands to Prime Minister and President to take an immediate decision about Maratha reservation. Earlier the Centre has shown its adoration for justice by making decisions on Shah Bano case, Atrocity Act and Article 370. The Constitution was amended and same should be done for Maratha reservation” said Thackeray. He warned against attempts to fuel the fire a

BJP MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati on Thursday said the Maharashtra government does not seem to be confident of winning the legal battle over the issue of Maratha quota under the Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) category.
He was talking to reporters, a day after the state government decided to allow Marathas to avail educational admissions and jobs under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota.
However, those who avail EWS certificates, which is optional, will not be eligible to get reservation under the SEBC category, the government said on Wednesday.
The Supreme Court earlier this year stayed the implementation of quota for the Maratha community under the SEBC category, which has been challenged by the Maharashtra government.
