Chippendale says RI Promise denies many students with disabilities chance to enroll in free tuition program Linda Borg, The Providence Journal © The Providence Journal file The Community College of Rhode Island has asked for a 2.5 percent tuition increase. President Meghan Hughes said the college experienced a 7 percent decline in enrollment this past year, less than the other community colleges in New England. PROVIDENCE State Rep. Michael W. Chippendale says a free tuition program at the Community College of Rhode Island discriminates against students with disabilities because they can t attend full-time. He has submitted a bill that would change the existing language of the program, known as Rhode Island Promise, to allow students with disabilities to attend class part-time.

WARWICK  Monday’s nor easter was a hindrance to many Rhode Islanders, but it helped Warwick s new mayor follow through on an aspiration. Just after his election, Mayor Frank Picozzi said he was interested in doing some snowplowing this winter. That’s what he did Monday night, according to his Facebook page. One resident flagged down the mayor and complained that he d pushed snow into the bottom of the man s driveway.
