Village prepares for upgrades, solar payments

MINSTER – Preparations for upgrades to sewage treatment, potential payments for residential solar production and the future needs of the fire department were all part of the discussion at the Tuesday night, Mrch 2, Minster Council meeting.
Village Administrator Don Harrod said CDM Smith submitted a proposal to help the village with engineering work to handle the amount of total dissolved solids that are released at the waste water treatment plant. He said the Ohio EPA has notified the village that they needed to explore treatment options to reduce the amount of total dissolved solids in the effluent. Harrod said the instances of going over the limit of 1516 mg per liter happened perhaps three to four times a year and that the overage amounted to 400 mg. The options CDM suggested included chemical treatment, reverse osmosis, or a lagoon-type system.
ACAA approves financial overview

NEW KNOXVILLE – At a Feb. 24 meeting of the Auglaize County Airport Authority (ACAA) approved the biennial financial overview as well as approved use of their logo for an upcoming 5K race. Also, plans for the grand opening of the new terminal at the Neil Armstrong Airport were discussed.
Mark Howe, ACAA treasurer, presented a document to the ACAA group, where he pointed out key financial highlights for 2020 and 2019. Once approved, the report will be sent to the State Auditor’s office. For example, the authority’s net position increased by $108,808 in 2020 and increased by $41,741 in 2019. Further, gross income from sales for 2020 was lower than in 2019. Gross profit on fuel sales for 2020 was $42,367 compared to $46,629 in 2019. Other highlights showed that operating expenses (excluding the cost of fuel) increased in 2020 to $28,950 compared to 2019. Payments for overtime and salary was
Council awards pool contract

NEW BREMEN – Pool repairs and a new park manager position were discussed at the New Bremen Council meeting Monday, Feb. 22.
Council approved an ordinance to award a contract to Shinn Brothers of Celina to replace the various drain pipes around and under the municipal pool at a cost of $105,200. Astro Pools offered a bid of $113,433. Shinn Brothers said they planned to begin the project April 15, 2021.
Village Administrator Brent Richter said replacement of the drain at the deep end of the pool may have to wait until fall because the village may not have enough time to obtain a permit from the Ohio Department of Health. He said they could not proceed with the permit process until they had a contract to repair the pool He added now that they have a their contractor on board, they can begin the process of obtaining the permit.
