Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar was given the finance and planning portfolio on Friday, nearly two weeks after he broke away from the original party and took oath as Maharashtras deputy chief minister.

A statement said before the official announcement of the portfolios, he was briefed by two secretaries of the Finance and Planning Department. Ajit Pawar's new office will be on the fifth floor of Mantralaya which will also serve as the office of the deputy chief minister.

Eight of Pawars NCP colleagues who were sworn in as ministers on July 2 also received their portfolios, according to a statement issued by Chief Minister Eknath Shindes office.

Apart from Ajit Pawar, eight other NCP ministers were also given portfolios, said a statement by CM Shinde's office.

Nine NCP MLAs who joined the Shiv Sena-BJP Maharashtra government last month, capping months of speculation about a rebellion, finally received their portfolios on Friday.

After protracted negotiations, the portfolios of the nine Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ministers in the Maharashtra government have been announced.
