BJP MP Varun Gandhi and Congress state president Ajay Rai had written separate letters to Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath respectively, requesting them to reconsider the decision.
The suspension of the licence of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, which is run by a trust led by Sonia Gandhi, has caused a political controversy. Over 400 employees have started a protest against the decision, while the Samajwadi Party has joined the Congress in their protest. The licence was suspended after a patient died due to alleged negligence. Union Minister Smriti Irani criticized the opposition party for prioritizing profits over the loss of a life.
Samajwadi Party district chief Ram Udit Yadav joined the dharna by the Congress members at the office of the chief medical officer, around 12 km from the hospital.
Kotwali Police Station in-charge Vinod Singh said that along with the police, the CMO of Amethi is also investigating the matter but no FIR has been registered in the matter yet
