He did six drafts of the speech, and then he added extemporaneously the word long, to indicate the many decades, really centuries in the slow progression towards realizing civil rights. This bill began as a culmination of the struggles of decades of struggles of africanamericans, but it encompassed all americans, it encompassed everyone regardless of race, color, sex or National Origin. My wife and i decided that we would establish the Panetta Institute with the mission of trying to inspire young people to lives of Public Service. Young people want to get involved in Public Service is because it is critical to our democracy. Our democracy just does not work unless people are willing to be a part of it, give something of governingystem in this country. I was inspired to get involved in public life because my parents were immigrants and thought it was important to give some ringback to the country.
