Celebrations for Hari Raya in Sarawak limited to first day and close family only

KUCHING: The Hari Raya celebration in Sarawak is now limited to the first day of Syawal and only for immediate family members, says the state disaster management committee. The committee said the Sarawak Islamic Council agreed to amend the Raya standard operating procedures (SOP) after assessing the Covid-19 situation in the state. The celebration is allowed on the first day only, with attendance limited to the closest family members. The detailed SOP will be available on the council s website at mis.sarawak.gov.my, the committee said in a statement on Monday (May 10). The council s initial guidelines issued on Tuesday (May 4) allowed the Aidilfitri celebration among immediate family members for the first seven days, with the number of guests capped at 50% of the home s capacity with physical distancing.

KUCHING: Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Sarawak is only allowed to be celebrated on the first day with the presence of close family members, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC). According to a statement from the SDMC today, the decision was made after evaluating the current Covid-19 situation in the state, which was also agreed to by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS). It said a detailed amendment to the standard operating procedure (SOP) could be obtained from the official MIS website at http://www.mis.sarawak.gov.my. Sarawak today recorded 649 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total infections in the state to 35,809, with two new fatalities bringing the death toll to 209.

KUCHING: Hari Raya open houses will not be allowed in Sarawak but households can host their immediate family for the celebration, except in areas under an enhanced movement control order. According to guidelines issued by the Sarawak Islamic Council, those in conditional MCO areas can receive their closest family members from the first to the seventh day of Syawal. The number of guests is limited to 50% of the home s capacity with physical distancing, the council said in a statement Wednesday (May 5). Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected to fall on May 13. The council also said Aidilfitri prayers were allowed in mosques, surau and approved premises in conditional MCO areas, with the congregation size based on the capacity with physical distancing of 1m.
