Melbourne, Florida-based Satcom Direct has expanded its terrestrial network with enhanced individual Points of Presence (PoPs) and network upgrades that help it support customers’ growing need for connectivity. The network enhancements include more connectivity options, thanks to expansion in the Asia-Pacific region. Satcom Direct also upgraded antennas at its Comsat teleports, the company said, adding capacity throughout its network.
As a result of the terrestrial network improvements, Satcom Direct said that as an internet service provider it can provide more flexibility to business aviation, military, and government customers. With cybersecurity a critical element for connectivity, Comsat and Satcom Direct’s Tier III-rated, ISO 27001-certified SD Data Center in Melbourne work together “to support delivery of a suite of cybersecurity solutions which maintain customer data integrity
When it started offering its
GoDirect platform of software solutions, it provided simple inform and control tools such as enabling a company to turn on Inmarsat SwiftBroadband-supported Internet if a principal was flying.

Airborne connectivity provider Satcom Direct has begun in-flight testing of its Plane Simple tail-mounted Ku-band antenna system. One year after the launch of the purpose-built unit, which is now mounted on the company’s Gulfstream G350 testbed, the next phase of testing takes it from ground assessment to aerial use to demonstrate the full performance capabilities of the unit, as well as confirm its integration with SD’s hardware, software, and supporting ground infrastructure.

Satcom Direct and Polaris Aero have joined forces to offer what they say will improve the way business aircraft operators handle risk assessments and mitigation processes. The Polaris FlightRisk platform is now integrated with the SD Pro digital operating system in a move the partners say will boost safety, while reducing pilot workload.
By combining the two data tools, SD PreFlight app users can now automatically transfer tail number, trip planning, and duty information to the FlightRisk app. The Polaris system analyzes this data quickly to provide flight crew with a risk assessment of the planned trip, indicating what actions or flight plan modifications might be required. PreFlight users can click to switch straight to the FlightRisk interface to see a more in-depth analysis of hazards and recommendations to reduce risk.
