Today, some organisations swear by a performance rating mechanism, even though many companies no longer follow the earlier method of a bell curve influenced rating system. Several organisations rigorously follow processes like OKRs (objectives and key results) today.
Industry officials, however, said the impact of the cut down in hiring is mostly at the senior management and director levels, while companies continue to hire at the top, or the partners level. "Hiring of partners or people who bring in business is pretty aggressive. It is the middle that is suffering, also due to a fall in exits," said a partner.
Grant Thornton has more than doubled its intake of UG students this year and the company is expanding to more than two dozen new campuses. PWC has increased its intake from UG colleges (non-engineers) by two-fold in the past two years, with the number of top-tier institutions from which it hires also increasing.
