difficult time keeping his conference in the republicans side and the house side all in line because you have the tea party conservatives, some of whom are getting frustrated. some are openly calling for a government shut down come saturday and some like boehner who think the public doesn t want to see the government continue to be dysfunctional if it shuts down. friday is when it runs out. the latest stop-gap measure to fund the government. the government is going to run out of money. the white house has put out a figure saying we agree, uncle we cry. we ll cut $33 billion for the rest of the year. john boehner said we haven t agreed to anything. that s going on. meantime we should let folks know they will hear about a separate issue starting tuesday when house republicans put out the blueprint budget for the next ten years. that s expected to have very dramatic proposals to cut the long-term debt in this country
in exile. we don t know. i think the point of the president saying it was to apply additional political pressure and frankly to give more support to rebels. i will try to get more out of you next hour on the presidential race. how much different will it look than that which we saw from the 2008 election? it will look different obviously because obama is an incumbent president. i think they will be pretty low key to be honest. the goal is really to get their heads down, get back out to the big donors and raise money. where you will see activity is online. we have heard report that is the announcement will be probably via twitter and facebook and all of that. i think that s where you will see most of the activity. that s the way they have to galvanize the base. more next hour, karen. thank you. thanks, alex. getting to the bottom of the scare in the air.
did we want gadhafi and his regime out of power? or were we just intervening to save benghazi for a day or two from armored attacks? i think the military measures are disconnected from the fuzzy political thinking that went into this operation. is there a scenario under which you could envision the u.s. attacking gadhafi, another one? well, you know, i think we had a choice of either deciding we want to take gadhafi and his regime out and here s what we are prepared to do with the cia, saudi money and air power or we could have picked a lesser objective. but unfortunately i think we have now committed ourselves publically. the president of the united states said, look, we want this guy out. that unifies the active allies. that s what the brits and the french and the rest want to
aircraft. the airlines aren t as happy. five years to retire older 737-300s and others where they don t want to risk overseeing the inspection. they would rather the planes were out of service. southwest is one of several low cost airlines that fly shorter routes. is there an argument against these routes and the shorter life span of planes? no. i think southwest is in the process of retiring the 737-300s. maybe it needs to be accelerated. we need aggressive oversight. it s ironic that the weakness happened, the house of representatives passed a bill to cut $4 billion from the f.a.a. that includes aviation safety inspi inspecto inspectors. everybody on the flight friday would support giving the f.a.a. the money it needs and to hope congress follows suit. now you bring in the budget and that draws alarm bells. okay. michael goldfarb, thank you.
