A recently launched program by Sault Symphony Orchestra helps to ease the effects of isolation among local seniors in long-term-care homes. The SSO’s new Seniors Connect program sees Symphony musicians meet virtually with residents in long term care. The calls allow the musician to demonstrate their instrument, answer any questions the senior has, and chat about the senior’s experiences and memories around music. “We know that a lot of seniors are really feeling the effects of prolonged isolation due to the pandemic,” Louis St. Pierre, SSO board chair, told Sault This Week. “When we learned about a similar program at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, we immediately started looking for a way to launch our own.”
