Julie Williams has devoted 38 years of her life to the Republic Bank Exodus steel orchestra, setting foot on the St Augustine compound for the first time as a member when she was a form two student at St George’s College in Barataria.
“I played pan at school, but it wasn’t enough and I wanted more, so my mother took me to Exodus,” she told WMN. She plays the cello pan and tenor bass.

My name is Nikisha Watson and I’m the woman cooking and wining to the tune of Savannah Grass in the video that went viral.
I am born and bred in Trinidad and spent all of my childhood, adolescence and early adulthood in Chaguanas.
It was real country then and I still say I’m a country girl. But now my old neighbourhood is like a little mini-city. Opposite my parents’ house, there s now a big gym.
What a year this has been.
When we ate our black-eyed peas and rice and popped our champagne on Old Year’s Night 2019, we had no idea 2020 was going to be the year it turned out to be especially on the entertainment front.
Luckily, we got to experience Carnival which, it turns out, was the last for the foreseeable future. COVID-19 ensured the complete shutdown of the entertainment sector as our Government sought to manage the number of infections locally.
Virtual became the new frontier for entertainment and as we head into 2021 it looks like it will certainly remain a part of the landscape even when life resumes some level of normalcy.
