The West Virginia Senate passed a bill, on Feb. 19, 2024, that would allow the Senate president and House of Delegates speaker to control the legislative auditor position. State agency reviews would have to come at the direction of those two legislative leaders under Senate Bill 687, whose lead sponsor is Senate Government Organization Committee Chair Jack Woodrum, R-Summers.

His House Bill 687 would eliminate a Board of Education's vote on appointments to fill out vacancies. This is a follow-up to process Guilford County used to bypass Michael Logan and seat William Goebel to represent District 3.
