CANTON David Lee, producing artistic director for downtown s Avenue Arts, eagerly anticipates the theater company s new performing venue on Sixth Street NW. The space will be a true black-box intimate theater, Lee said. It will be an immersive theater experience. In some of the in-your-face dramas, it will allow you to be part of the story. In some scenarios, you ll be part of the set.
And then comes the inevitable disclaimer: Of course, that will happen after COVID, Lee, 26, said. That s what we re envisioning.
In the meantime, Avenue Arts shows will be designed for at-home, online viewing. Two productions already are scheduled: Embraced: An Evening of Acceptance, a cabaret, on March 5, and Steel Magnolias, the beloved play set in a southern beauty parlor, April 23 through May 8.
