Hatfield covid coordinator left post amid friction with schools

Hatfield covid coordinator left post amid friction with schools Hatfield Town Hall GAZETTE FILE PHOTO Published: 2/28/2021 11:53:55 AM HATFIELD After almost a year leading the town’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, both as a member of the Board of Health and an independent contractor, Kerry Flaherty has left the COVID coordinator position. But Flaherty’s early February departure from doing the majority of this work for the town is raising concerns for the Select Board, with board members indicating that advice she offered related to reopening plans for the Hatfield public schools may have contributed to her decision. Select Board Chairwoman Diana Szynal said at the board’s Feb. 16 meeting that Flaherty was “subjected to really poor treatment” that included a school employee undermining her authority and making condescending comments.

Somerville debates school reopening metrics, educators want thresholds

Wicked Local The debate on when and how to reopen schools continues in Somerville, with the latest discussion focused on metrics and thresholds for when to close or reopen schools. On Jan. 6, the School Committee heard from two experts, Dr. Justin Feldman and Dr. Andrea Ciaranello, about what data to pay attention to and the overall quality of Somerville’s plan. Feldman and Ciaranello praised Somerville’s plan, especially the plan to test all students and staff regularly. Feldman noted that Somerville is in the top 1% of the country in terms of the mitigation measures the district has agreed to implement.
