HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania lawmakers think they have found a way to allow whole milk to be served in schools.

The legislation would ensure institutions that participate in the School Lunch Program offer at least one flavored milk option.

School nutrition and child development experts say millions of U.S. children could go hungry this summer because the $1.5 trillion spending bill moving through Congress doesn’t include certain school meal waivers, according to PBS Newshour.

Dairy activists are praising USDA’s decision to keep flavored 1% milk in schools, but they say more milk options are needed.

The number of meals served during the labor dispute was only four percent of what the districts school meal program typically distributes.
