Smooth rollout for first week of Scioto County vaccines

PORTSMOUTH According to the Scioto EMA Joint Information Center, approximately 814 people in Scioto County including health care personnel, EMS, and public health vaccination staff have received their first doses of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19 in the county’s first week of vaccinating. Christine Thomas, Portsmouth City Health Department’s Director of Nursing was the first in the county to receive the vaccine.
Another shipment of Moderna doses is expected to arrive at local health departments, hospitals, and other Ohio Department of Health-approved facilities this week. Scioto County vaccination sites will continue to provide the vaccine to front line health care workers, then offer the vaccination to staff and then the residents of long-term care facilities and home health care providers once more doses are available. The Moderna vaccine requires a second dose 28 days after the first.
First round of vaccines coming to Scioto County

SCIOTO Scioto County is expected to receive its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines as early as Monday Dec. 21. Local health, education, and emergency management agencies are ready to activate coordinated vaccination plans that follow Ohio Department of Health guidelines.
The first supply of vaccines will be limited to frontline medical and public health workers and emergency medical responders.
“We need to first protect those who are providing frontline care for our growing number of positive cases,” said Dr. Jerod Walker, Scioto County Health Commissioner. “Vaccines are on the way and will be administered as quickly as possible.”
Vaccines, curfew detailed in PCHD release

PORTSMOUTH The Portsmouth City Health Department provided an update on the coronavirus Friday afternoon, detailing the renewed curfew and plans for the dissemination of the vaccine.
Scioto County remained at Level Three or “Red” on the Ohio Department of Health’s Public Health Advisory System, meeting three of seven indicators on Thursday, where Governor Mike DeWine also extended the 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. curfew until Jan. 2, 2021.
Concerning to the department was the severe exposure and spread of the virus, this week alone having three days with over 100 confirmed cases and four deaths according to PCHD and the Scioto County Health Department.
