City officials confirm presence of COVID-19 variants in Amarillo community
During Wednesday’s COVID-19 news conference, medical professionals said they are encouraged by the recent COVID-19 trends in the community related to the number of active cases and hospitalizations.
“When we look at these numbers, we can see that our new cases remain low, our active cases remain low, our hospitalizations are clearly low (and) there’s plenty of vaccine available,” said Scott Milton, the city’s public health authority and an associate professor at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo.
However, even with the lower case numbers and hospitalizations, the presence of COVID-19 variants in the Texas Panhandle were confirmed during the conference.
