No 18 Florida State Completes Comeback, Defeats No 44 Miami 4-3

TALLAHASSEE – The No. 18 Florida State men’s tennis team defeated No. 44 Miami 4-3 on Wednesday evening at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. “Tonight, we really had to dig deep, Miami came out and played really well and won the doubles point, and continued the momentum in singles and won a got bunch of quick first sets,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “We had to fight back, which shows our capacity as a team to never be out. The crowd is a big advantage for us, and they stayed the full time. TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women’s tennis team hosts three matches this week in the team's final homestand of the 2023 spring season. The Seminoles face Notre Dame on Thursday and continue with Saturday's doubleheader against Louisville and FAMU. Florida State is 10-9 on the season and enters this week’s matches ranked 39th in the national team rankings. Junior Ellie Schoppe is coming off a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 win against the No. 14-ranked Carson Tanguilig of North Carolina. Florida State’s Vic Allen also secured a 6-7 (4), 1-0 victory against the 70th-ranked Cameron Morra of Duke at No. 1 singles. Allen is ranked No. 79 in the national singles rankings. Notre Dame is 13-7 on the season and is ranked No. 23 in the nation. The Irish are led by senior Page Freeman who is ranked 53rd in the nation. TALLAHASSEE – The 17th-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team resumes play Friday when it hosts No. 71 Georgia Tech at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center at 5:30 p.m. The Seminoles play No. 55 Clemson on Sunday at 12 p.m.  Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 6 singles player in the nation. Cornut-Chauvinc enters this weekend’s matches with an 11-2 record with eight of those wins coming against ranked opponents.  Joshua Dous-Karpenschif is one of three Seminoles with at least 10 plus wins this spring, posting a 10-2 record on the season, including a 5-0 record at No. 4 and a 3-0 record at No. 5.  Youcef Rihane, ranked 109th nationally, is 12-3 and has beaten three nationally ranked players so far this year.   Georgia Tech is 11-9 on the season and is ranked 71st in the nation. The Seminoles play No. 43 Notre Dame on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Florida State is led by junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, who is the No. 4 singles player in the nation. TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women’s tennis team has a pair of ACC matches this weekend, hosting Wake Forest on Friday and North Carolina State on Sunday. The Seminoles are 6-5 on the season, which includes a 4-1 record at home. Florida State enters this weekend’s matches ranked 48th in the national team rankings. Florida State’s Vic Allen is coming off a 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles against Miami. Allen is 14-5 overall and is a perfect 6-0 at No. 2 singles this spring.
