Put me to sleep, i never want to wake up ever again. >> my first thought was, i wonder what s.e. was thinking about that. >> did you really think i was going to be into it? >> no. but you mentioned marco rubio. and i think he is actually in a way the biggest loser on this because he gave a great speech. it was about marco rubio, it wasnt particularly about mitt romney. but he gave a great speech. >> really good. >> and like you, my head had just exploded. so i couldnt pay attention to the speech...

Groups falling on deaf ear s at the republican convention? certainly isnt for the lack of trying. have you heard about homocon? i didnt think so. the party hosted tuesday night in tampa bay by conservative group go proud was billed as a must-have ticket. with grover norquist on the guest list you might think there would be a loin ine to attend running out the door. buzz feeds chris went. how was this received in tampa, what big names were there? >> yeah, thomas, it was a big event, and people fr...

What we expect from this. i think to me, the biggest surprise last night was that primetime hour 10:00 to 11:00, we didnt hear any mentions of president obama. if theres a traditional role for a vice presidential nominee in a speech its to be a little more aggressive and forceful in going after the incumbent president. im thinking of al gore in 1992 with hits refrain its time for them to go, then dick cheney trying to throw that back in the democrats face saying now its time for them to go. im e...

About what was going on. you might think from all that energy that christie injected that the faithful would walk out thrilled and happy. peggy noonan was there. and she writes in her blog, thats not quite the case. they marched out of the hall tuesday night on fire for their side. but i was there. they did not. they walked out like people who werent quite sure what to think or how to feel. but they were hoping for the best. s.e., im sure thats not the feeling that you got. >> no, chris christie...

Great reviews after tonight. >> thats not what bush and clinton can talk about, but go ahead. >> what ann romney can do is remind megaof a moment mitt and ann had before. take a look. >> most of our events were involving humor of one another, most of which cannot be repeated on the air. >> they were involving humor. just be funny. then we know that youre humorous. it reminds me the same thing. its not enough to have a family member saying hes likable, i swear, hell warm. be warm and likable then...

Work and get the water out of the way. but the next 36 hours is key. ive talked to a lot of people getting their family out. one guy on canal street with his wife and children said, maybe i waited too long to leave, but im getting out of here now. thats the word from new orleans to mississippi, alabama, new orleans, people are getting out and waiting on this hurricane, category 1, to move through here and hopefully do the least amount of damage as possible, s.e. >> thank you for keeping us updat...

On kentucky bourbon and checking out sharks at the florida aquarium. our own political shark lover s.e.cupp has been hard working at the convention, but finding a little time for fun, too. s.e., whats going on there? >> actually, i did all the things you just said. i had cuban city and had suburban. on sunday night i went to a party that the texas delegation was having and they had a great band, the josh abbott band, who played and i got to chat with them. hes a really great guy from texas. roy ...

Spreading their campaign message. what should we keep the eye out for this week? it is a politics heavy week, so we have a lot to put through the spin cycle today. >> s.e., youre down there, and i guess there are no speeches tonight. it gives time to look at bigger pictures. this is mitt romneys big week, his sort of favorable mixage in poll says way down. the race is, theres a poll that says it is tied, other wileys he is down a couple points. what do we need to see in the speech of his thursda...

Application here. it seems like when a democrat says something categorically racist, it is gaff. when a republican even brings up the topic of race, its a dog whistle. isnt there some kind of double standard at play here? >> you know, s.e., i can see why you would say that, but we have to come down to specifics. i personally defended joe biden. a lot of people thought what joe biden said about chains was his own racial coding. i did not. >> what about what joe biden said about receive 7-elef en....

This is it. >> and i think s.e. hit on something here. a fine line you have to walk. making a speech that can jazz up the base but that can play to the broad audience watching across the country. and it sounds cliche to say, because others have said this, but i do think the key piece here is for mitt romney to be able to show that he can connect with the american people. it is easy for him. i think people have the sense that this is a confident guy. a problem solver. i think people understand th...
