Earlier on Sunday, State BJP spokesperson Kedar Gupta said that Bharatiya Janata Party will join the Chhattisgarh bandh called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad over the incident in Bemetara.

Amid heavy police deployment and imposition of section 144, the last rites of 22-year-old Bhuneswar Sahu, who was killed in a clash unfolded between two communities following a minor dispute, was performed in Bemetara district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday.

The BJP and Congress party workers clashed at Kodekal in Hunasagi taluk on Thursday. Stone pelting was reported and more than 10 cars were damaged in the incident.

A senior officer of the Chandannagore Police Commissionerate said around 12 people were arrested in connection with the clashes that broke out between two groups during a Ram Navami procession on Sunday evening.

The police officers further advised the populace to uphold peace and disregard rumour. 

After clashes between two groups during the Ram Navami celebrations in parts of Bihar, the state police on Sunday said the situation in Nalanda's Biharsharif was completely normal.

Life in Howrah's Shibpur and Kazipara area, which witnessed clashes during a Ramnavami procession, is limping back to normalcy.
