Employees at Y-12 National Security Complex are passing through new entrance booths to access the site’s high-security area.

Crews are taking the first steps to bring the massive Alpha-4 facility at Y-12 to the cold-and-dark stage before demolition.

The Bulk Shielding Reactor - known as Building 3010 - is one of more than a dozen research reactors built at Oak Ridge National Laboratory since the 1950s, and is the first reactor at the Tennessee site to be demolished.
