A bill introduced in the Arizona Senate would take a first step toward limiting the impact of federal programs that militarize local police and expand the national surveillance state.

At the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, they announced $4.5 million in funding for the nonprofit security grant fund program.

Gov. Wolf announced $4.5 million in new funding for the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s Non-Profit Security Grant Program that provides funding to churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, and other non-profit organizations which face bias and are targets of hate crimes.

The legislation would prohibit New York state and local law enforcement agencies from receiving or purchasing certain property from a military equipment surplus program operated by the federal government.

The new statute requires law enforcement agencies to get local government approval before obtaining military equipment through federal programs.

The proposed law would bar law enforcement agencies from acquiring banned military equipment from any source, including the well-known federal 1033 program along with any other military surplus program operated by the federal government.

Rep. Kathleen Rice sent seven letters on Tuesday that were individually addressed to the CEOs of Altice USA, AT&T, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, Dish Network and Verizon Communications.
