a number of international headlines this morning from the u.s. response to that north korean nuclear threat to the surprise announcement of elections in the uk with brexit talks looming and that s just the start. joining us to break it all down, cnn s chief international correspondent christiane amanpour live for us in london. great to have you on. good morning to you. the vice president, mike pence, interesting rhetoric regarding north korean nuclear threats speaking to u.s. troops. let me let you hear what he said to get your analysis. the united states of america will always seek peace, but under president trump the shield stands guard and the sword stand ready. what do you make of our strategy to contain the nuclear threat and where is this ultimately headed? reporter: well, look, this is the key foreign policy and national security and global security question of the moment.
typically to republican presidents, saying, yes, words matter, and it can be a national security issue. do you sense at all, especially in covering the white house, that there is a tipping point on this? from a political standpoint, nobody elected donald trump because they thought he was the most trustworthy candidate out there. that didn t factor into their calculus. the way he spoke during the campaign was attractive to them. the question is, for a president, somebody who has to declare war, take military action, announce policy restriction, the fact that we now have to question about the restrictions on personal electronic devices coming in from some middle eastern countries announced earlier this week, if that is a political thing or a security question. it s a security question, obviously. that is a sign of the lack of

of airports. we deal with this kind of security question in balancing the traveling, the ability of the traveling public to travel freely and as unencup berred as possible while at the same time trying to make sure we can keep people safe from those who wish to do them harm. we address those things each time after there is an incident that exposes a glare a glaring problem like this one. when we had the shoe bomber, we had the guy on the plane who was trying to light his shoes, explosive dwief wi explosive we banned larger amounts of liquid so we could minimize the risk to passengers. already we re aware, but this obviously exposes that baggage claim areas all across the country. i travel in and out of this
