Southbury Selectmen Approve Resolution for Lutheran Home

SOUTHBURY — The Board of Selectmen, meeting Thursday, May 20, approved a resolution during a public hearing for Ascentria Care Alliance regarding its ownership of the Lutheran Home. Attorney Gail E. McTaggart, Secor, Cassidy, & McPartland, explained the requirement to hold such a hearing to benefit investors and bond holders of a $35 million bond. Ms. McTaggart noted that there is no obligation to the town; the federal regulations for bonding require a public hearing in towns where the properties are located. A planned renovation of the rest home will address the only remaining piece of the property that has not been upgraded. The home has been part of the community for 100 years.

Southbury Selectmen Review Questions on State s STS Plans | Top Stories

SOUTHBURY – The Board of Selectmen, at a special meeting on Tuesday, March 30, reviewed and edited the questions submitted by the Strategic Plan Commission regarding the Southbury Training School. The Strategic Plan Commission had submitted a list of 22 questions to selectmen, each of which was considered and reworded to better focus the town’s concerns or, in some cases, eliminated to highlight importance of the remaining questions. In all, selectmen eliminated 11 of the questions, added to one and reworded or edited 10. The selectmen plan to include the questions in a letter to the state, in what has been described as a fact-finding effort. The response will better prepare the town for any future developments with the STS property.
