Aussie showdown to settle matters in Japan

Aussie showdown to settle matters in Japan AAP 2 hrs ago Matt McIlraith © AP PHOTO Ex-Wallaby Sean McMahon looms as a player for Suntory in Japan s Top League final. A rivalry that has been a staple of rugby in Japan reaches its conclusion on Sunday when Sean McMahon s Suntory Sungoliath take on Robbie Deans s Panasonic Wild Knights in the last Top League final. While global knowledge of the league has grown through its lifetime, interest in the decider is quite literally out of this world. The final seconds to kick off will be beamed in from the International Space Station, counted down by the station s commander, Japanese astronaut Akihito Hoshide.

My overseas Wallaby 23

My overseas Wallaby 23 A Set the default text size A Set large text size Replay A Set the default text size A Set large text size Since COVID birthed the domestic super AU competition, the disparity between the top and bottom teams in Australia has never been clearer. The Reds and the Brumbies clearly have the best cattle going around, and when we get to playing the Kiwi teams, they both will have a good shot to knock over almost anyone in that competition. But can Matt To’omua’s boot really drag the Rebels to a win against even the 11-game losing streak Chiefs? If the Reds can put on 41 points on the Waratahs, can you imagine how many points the Blues would manage?

Kerevi killing it in Japan's Top League

Kerevi killing it in Japan s Top League AAP 6/03/2021 © AP PHOTO Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi is impressing in Japan s Top league competition. Former Wallabies vice-captain Samu Kerevi has again shown why he remains a wanted man in Australia with a powerful performance in round three of Japan s Top League. Among Wallabies coach Dave Rennie s top targets from overseas-based players, Kerevi ran amok, bagging two tries as Suntory Sungoliath outclassed Munakata Sanix Blues 75-10. With four tries in three games, blockbusting centre Kerevi is relishing life playing outside All Blacks playmaker Beauden Barrett. Such is the pair s scintillating form in Japan, Kerevi and Barrett could easily meet up on opposite sides later in the year during the Bledisloe Cup.

The young Aussies to watch overseas in 2021

The young Aussies to watch overseas in 2021 A Set the default text size A Set large text size Replay A Set the default text size A Set large text size Aussies plying their rugby trade overseas is nothing new, but increasingly it’s our young guns making the move in their prime, ruling them out of Wallabies selection. This year we’ve started to see a high number of players at the start of their rugby career deciding to take the overseas route for differing reasons. Let’s take a look some of the young uncapped players Rugby Australia and the Super Rugby AU franchises should keep a close eye on to monitor their development and bring back to our shores down the line.
