Congressman, as it wasnt just 2013 but all the way back to 2006, then senators schumer, obama,en biden, and clinton were all voting in favor of constructing a barrier on the mexican border. frankly, not much has changed in the interim 12 years, except thm problem has gotten a lot worse. are people like schumerte suffering acute amnesia or is it just petty partisan politics? they cant stand to give trump something he wants even though it is the same thing they have long wanted. >> yes. i am not s...

Russian leader. >> will you publicly condemn president putin? >> reporter: a person with direct knowledge tells nbc news top national security officials tuesday morning huddled for an unscheduled meeting to address the fallout. >> thank you for that report. following president trumps walk back on his widely criticized comment in helsinki, senate democrats are demanding answers. and political reporter heidi pryzbilla is back with that. >> so unusual. we have no official record of the presidents m...

To reunite with their parents and could take some time. every day they wait, its like a heinous scene. what do you make of that? >> none of this would have been necessary in the first place in congress did their jobs. yesterday and today, senators schumer said the president has the power of the pen. he can take care of the mess he made. he didnt make the mess. congress made the mess by their inaction to do anything about securing the border or to set up avenues in which we can control who comes ...

There have not been a lot of at least rigorous talks between the two parties. senators schumer and mcconnell have spoken by phone at least one. other than that, there hasnt been a lot of communication between them or their offices. theyre obviously all talking right now, but i think theyve gotten to the point right now whereas brian pointed out, the issues for democrats havent just changed. its not a date change type of issue in terms of how long a short term funding bill would be. this he want ...

The government shut down and then to find out there was another deal in the making, according to senator schumer, that again fell apart in the period of time after which senator schumer left the office and sometime later when the white house indicated that there would be no deal, even with the wall being offering. its really extraordinary. i mean, it seemed pretty clear, even from the beginning of all this that this is the ball is in donald trumps court. he is the one who is the negotiator. he i...

Own the schumer shutdown. tonight they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children and our countrys ability to serve all americans. we will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands. this is the behavior of obstructionist losers, not legislators. when democrats start paying our armed forces and first responders, we will reopen negotiations on immigration reform. during this pol...

I dont think theyd find many people around this country who would disagree with them. it certainly seems that immigration is the signature issue that is driving what we are seeing here tonight. senator schumer relayed the idea that he was, as we know, called to the white house today, sat down with president trump. he suggested he even put the border wall on the table in goes, an idea that many democrats oppose. he seemed to indicate that he thought president trump was willing to accept the deal ...

Sometimes wisdom comes out of the state of louisiana. well end that on you. erika werner has surely chosen the night shift tonight for "the washington post." shes just off the floor. erika, what have you seen that kind of fills in the picture of what weve been covering on the floor tonight? >> well, as you heard senators schumer and mcconnell speak there just after the vote, this is be, and so how long it ends up lasting and maybe it will be just a couple of days and maybe it will be longer, but...

Huddle around chuck schumer, who will be the person to give this signal to the democrats as to anything lindsey graham or his republican colleague versus brought to them is something they can trust. remember, schumer is the only law maker here in the room with the president today, it was just the two men and their readyive chiefs of staff and so much of the hangup here for democrats is on the issue of trust of this president. can they agree to a deal and see it all the way through to its conclus...

Morning with nothing better to do than joke around with your friends, but the government has shut down now. it does not look like there will be a reprieve for that at least until the morning senator mcconnell said. there are serious issues to discuss. right now you got a president who basically walked away as senator schumer said from some potential immigration deals and is now saying he wont talk about immigration until the government is reopened. be i the way, thats a similar position that pre...
