Four villages in Peren district refute SCAN's claim

Dimapur, Oct. 23 (EMN): The village councils of Old Jalukie, Jalukiekam, Beisumpui and Beisumpuikam villages on Sunday refuted the statement made by Senior Citizens’ Association Nagaland (SCAN) that the NSCN (IM) Hebron camp was within the jurisdiction of Ntangki National Park, and ‘some arrangements’ were being made to rehabilitate the NSCN(IM) cadres inside the park post Naga solution. The village councils clarified that the NSCN (IM) Hebron camp is not within Ntangki National Park, the land for which was donated by Beisumpui village, while the camp is within the jurisdiction of the Old Jalukie village, the original landowner. “The boundary between Jalukie and Beisumpui is clearly marked by the Mungleu River so there is no room for confusion and misunderstanding. Naga people should know who the then chief minister of the state was when Hebron camp was established at Forest Colony, in late 1990s, which is outside the jurisdiction of Ntangki NP,” it read. The resettlement was done outside the jurisdiction of the national park in the then Forest Colony of the Forest department and this fact was also validated by the director of Ntangki National Park, T Aochuba, the statement said. It stated that one of the Ntangki National...

SCAN alleges Intangki National Park under siege by NSCN (IM)

Our CorrespondentKohima, Oct. 18 (EMN): The Senior Citizens’ Association Nagaland (SCAN) on Tuesday alleged that the Intangki National Park was under siege by the NSCN (IM), who had taken control of the Forest department’s establishment thereat. This was stated during a press conference held at Hotel Ura in Kohima, addressed by Dr. Khanlo Magh, President of SCAN; KK Sema, spokesperson of SCAN with Kuolachalie Seyie, advisor of SCAN, in the presence of SCAN officials — Dr. R Rose, Gen Secy. SCAN; Dr. P Khala vice-president SCAN; C Pankathang Lotha, Joint Secy. SCAN; and S P Francis, treasurer of SCAN. Dr. Magh said the association is apolitical and had a number of discussions before subsequently filing a Right to Information (RTI) in regard to the issue. Sema maintained that SCAN took up action in 2019 as it had came across ‘rumours’ that the supervisory and managerial establishment of the Forest department at Intangki National Park including the staff quarters had been taken over by NSCN (IM). He stated that SCAN on September 14, 2020, filed an RTI not directly to the Forest dept. as it was ‘skeptical that it would not furnish an honest answer’. They instead filed it to the...

Old age homes needed in all districts of Nagaland to rescue homeless senior citizens, says Elderline official

Our Correspondent Kohima, Sep. 28 (EMN): A total of 3309 calls were received from senior citizens and 102 service requests resolved in the last one year by the senior citizens’ helpline — Elderline Nagaland. This was informed by the programme manager, Elderline, Neithonuo Liegise during the 1st anniversary celebration of Elderline Nagaland at Angami Women Organisation (AWO) building in Kohima on Wednesday. Further, she informed that more than 100 senior citizen cards were registered with the help of first response officers (FROs) under Senior Citizens Association Nagaland (SCAN) and a total of six destitute elderly persons were rescued since the launch of the helpline. Liegise said that through the initiative of the Elderline and with the support of the implementing agency and stakeholders, it had approached the SBI main branch, Kohima to open a separate counter for senior citizens and establish senior citizen-friendly facilities. She added that SBI branches in all the districts will also open separate counters for senior citizens and that the Nagaland State Transport (NST) had agreed and approved the government’s order to reserve four seats for senior citizens (travelling with senior citizen card) and differently-able persons for free in the state.
