Dowa and Ntchisi chiefs dissolve 85 child marriages in two months

Traditional and community leaders in Dowa and Ntchisi districts have dissolved 85 marriages in less than two months, thanks to the ‘Raising the Voice of Women in the Fight Against Violence Against Women and Girls’ Project. The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe (CCJP Lilongwe) is implementing the project in partnership with Child Rights Advocacy and Paralegal Aid Centre (CRAPAC) with financial support from UN Women through the Spotlight Initiative Project. The ultimate goal of the four months project is to contribute towards significant empowerment of women and girls and creation of a violence-free environment. The project, which expires this June, was implemented in areas under Senior Chief Nthondo and TA Kalumo in Ntchisi and TAs Chiwele, Mkukula and Msakambewa in Dowa.

CCJP Lilongwe moves to end sexual and gender based violence in Dowa and Ntchisi

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe (CCJP Lilongwe) has challenged local leaders to start questioning and changing patriarchal and cultural practices that have, for decades, given women and girls lower status in Dowa and Ntchisi districts. Authorities blame patriarchal and cultural for contributing significantly to the incidences of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) in the two districts. With funding from UN Women through Spotlight Initiative, CCJP Lilongwe is implementing a project designed to empower women and girls so that they can challenge drivers of violence against women and girls both in private and public spheres.

Interdenominational group decries poor Covid-19 messaging in rural settings

Lilongwe Interfaith Dialogue Association (Lida) has called for more collaborative efforts between the government and non-governmental organizations in the dissemination of information about the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Lida operates under the Inter Religious Dialogue and Conflict Management Project, which CfSC is implementing with funding from a German charity organization, Miserior.
