Meta is now putting teens into its most restrictive Facebook and Instagram control setting to prevent exposure to self-harm content.

Meta Platforms (META.O) announced that it will hide more types of content for teenagers on Instagram and Facebook, in line with expert guidance. The social media giant has been under pressure to protect children from harmful content on its apps.

The effort to curb harmful material and reduce unwanted interactions with teen social-media accounts come as states are suing parent company Meta.

New report from the Molly Rose Foundation says social media firms are failing to stop the promotion of self-harm and suicide content.

Ian Russell, whose daughter took her own life in 2017, said the 'fundamental systemic failure' will 'continue to cost young lives’.

Teenagers in India and across Asia-Pacific are turning to social media platforms for judgement-free, engaging information about sex, sexuality and pleasure. But content creators say their posts are falling foul of moderation guidelines that don't distinguish between edutainment and pornography.
