Page 3 - Sensor Package News Today

Come back downwards the atlantic, try to gather it up, get as much information off this balloon as we can, if we can find any sensor package thats on there, rather large, about the size of a mack truck, hopefully well be able to garner some information off that as well. mike: do you share the concern that that weve heard from retired senior brass types about when it hits the water, it could sink rather rapidly in that saltwater with sensitive equipment may not do very well? >> yeah. i think i he...

Sensor package after they take it down. just taking it down isnt going to achieve the most valued objective. >> yeah, griff, to me the reason its important to get the sensor package. its a massive package. the package that we know underneath the balloon is the size of a school bus. thats huge. we dont know whats inside the package. but i wished we could have recovered it earlier. and, griff, the problem the information has been transmitted. shoot down the balloon, thank you very much, we recover...

Terms of the reaction time and willingness to react on the part of the u.s. also they did, perhaps, collect realtime information of the military equipment that you outlined. so what part of that is concerning, or should we just not be concerned about that at all in. >> well, no, we should be. its not just maybe on the equipment, but when it was the loitering and the sensor package they had, they were gathering signals intelligence and communications intelligence, and thats very important. what w...

Almost immediately. if that thing is falling as the size of a school bus at that thing is valid for 60000 feet hitting the water and theres not going to be a lot left with an recovery recovery is going to be very, very hard. theyve got a landing ship docked in route to that area. i think right now that sensor package if you look at it closely and look at the street again and you really run that underneath bloom and the balloon is hit you will see a package separated from that balloon. i am prett...

Down at a certain rate. if its all-in-one piece, probably no big deal. its going to land in one place. if you hit the payload package and destroy that, now you have debris thats going to be scattered. but the fact of the matter is the thing should have been shot down before it penetrated the territory of our sovereign air space. whats really of more concern than the sensor package that this chinese balloon is carrying, is why did we let this penetrate the sovereign territory of canada the united...

Say this but we have a live shot now of this balloon going down. this balloon has been taken down. it is now falling from the sky there over surfside beach, south carolina so your reaction to this sir? >> yes i am watching it. first of all, well done. congrats to the military for being able to do that. obviously tracking this thing is no problem in bringing it down with the united states military is not much of a problem either. its still a major coordination effort to do it. hopefully we will c...

About people. the defense officials ive spoken with about this have reinforced its not a threat to commercial aviation at its altitude and doesnt pose a threat to people on the ground when its flying around. again, if that situation changes while theyre watching it, i think thats when we might see some sort of change in action here. >> general, whats your read on this? >> well, its a strange, uncoordinated action by the chinese. they have been getting increasingly aggressive, harassing our own i...

Holes in it with a 50cal and it comes down slowly. i dont expect it would explode if you did that, i mean, it would if you hit it with the missile and everything would come down at 32 feet per second squared, but is there a way to slowly deflate it? >> look, they just should knock it down. in montana, nine people per square mile. i mean, theres not a lot -- a lot of space out there, and when that was coming earlier, make the decision where and when to do it. if you knock it down, look at the sen...

It can -- with its sensor package, it can see out, if you will, about 20,000 square miles. so from eastern ukraine, depending on its route, which is classified, it could have had a very close look at what the russian positions were and what was going on. every expectation there will be more of these flights. the russians are well aware of u.s. capabilities in this kind of thing. they know that the u.s. is looking at them, looking at those 100,000 forces, seeing where they are, trying to assess t...

Theyre called sonobuoys. >> theyre a sensor package out of the aircraft. will deploy a hydro dols phone. >> once it hits the water surface it has saltd water switches that starts activating different deployments. everything in this canister starts to unwind. theres a bunch of gear in there that is packed in nicely. theres a radio antenna that talks to the aircraft so the buoy and the aircraft are constantly in communication. microphone is listening for signals on a very long string and they depl...
