LAHORE: Police on Tuesday arrested PML-N MNA Javed Latif after a sessions court dismissed his petition for interim pre-arrest bail in a case of “inciting people against the state institutions”.
The MNA had left the court when Additional District & Sessions Judge Wajid Minhas reserved verdict in the petition after hearing final arguments from the prosecution and the petitioner. The personnel of CIA police in civvies were already present on the court premises, apparently to arrest the MNA.
As the judge announced the verdict, a police team intercepted Mr Latif on his way back to Sheikhupura, near Phool Mandi (flower market) and arrested him.

As the hearing commenced on Tuesday in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Wajid Minhas, counsel of Javed Latif argued that the FIR registered against his client was false and based on malice. He said the police have registered case against his client without listening to him.
The counsel argued that the case against his client was registered on the basis of a conversation in a TV programme. He said a sedition case cannot be registered at the request of a citizen. He further said that such case cannot be registered on political talk. Astonishingly, the counsel alleged that a conspiracy was hatched to assassinate Maryam Nawaz and his client’s discussion was in that context.

PML-N MNA arrested over remarks against state institutions

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Javed Latif was arrested on Tuesday after his bail was denied by the court in a case registered against him on charges of inciting people against state institutions.
An additional district and sessions judge dismissed the pre-arrest bail of the accused, which was sought in the case related to alleged remarks against the state, its institutions and their integrity, spreading chaos and panic among people.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Wajid Minhas presided over the hearing. Allegedly Latif had left the courtroom before the verdict was announced, and he was later arrested near Saggian bridge in Lahore.
