A Jefferson woman accused of drowning a 10-week-old puppy in a West Milford pond has been offered a plea deal that will put her behind bars for a year but allow her to keep a pet already under her care.
Should Tonya Fea, 49, plead guilty to animal cruelty, prosecutors would recommend a term of probation provided she serve 364 days in Passaic County Jail, Passaic County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Galkin said during a virtual court hearing on Tuesday.
Fea is allegedly responsible for the death of the young golden retriever found in April 2019 inside a crate that had been submerged and weighed down in a West Milford pond off Bonter Road, the Passaic County Prosecutor s Office said.
