Officials from the Department of Human Settlements have confirmed to the Portfolio Committee in Parliament that no funds, other than existing annual grants, will be allocated to KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) for housing related flood relief. This follows in excess of 14 000 homes having been damaged and destroyed in the Province during the floods that occurred in early April.

The Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamaloko Kubayi, has announced a R1bn injection for Kwazulu Natal to help the province's recovery from the devastating floods that have claimed close to 400 lives.

The KZN floods have left more than 8 000 homes partially destroyed. Treasury has confirmed the province will receive R1bn.
