Despite recent setbacks, India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is still the dominant party at the central level. In case it turns out that victory is not at hand for India’s opposition – that it may not be able to win the next elections of 2024, which currently appears likely – then the main party of opposition, the Indian National Congress, will probably have to work out a new long-term strategy. By this, I mean a wider engagement plan, not just a way to counter the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the next election campaign. In that case, it seems such a plan should include broader social engagement, as this is exactly one of the BJP’s central advantages.

Ghaziabad: Kailash Mansarovar Bhawan in Shakti Khand-4 has been converted into a Covid care centre for patients with mild symptoms, in a big relief for the residents of Indirapuram struggling to find hospital beds amid a ferocious second wave of coronavirus. The centre will also attend to the medicine needs of the local people, GMC officials said on Wednesday.
The centre has 150 beds and is equipped with vital oxygen supply. A doctor and six paramedics have also been deputed at the centre, which is being run by GMC with support from Jai Bharat, an NGO. Meanwhile, RSS’s Sewa Bharati has started a similar facility with 50 oxygen beds in a separate section of the Bhawan. Nine patients are currently being treated at the two facilities, including four at the Sewa Bharati facility.
