CARBONDALE, Ill. (UND Athletics) – The University of North Dakota men’s basketball team dropped a 85-64 decision to Southern Illinois on Thursday afternoon in Carbobdale, Ill.
UND (1-6) struggled in the first half against the No. 17 team in the Mid-Major Top-25, as Southern Illinois (4-0) used a 20-4 run over a nine-minute stretch in the opening stanza to build a 17-point halftime advantage.
Gertautas Urbonavicius had his best game of the young season off the bench, matching the team lead with 13 points on a 5-for-7 day from the field. The sophomore also grabbed four rebounds and sank three triples to pace UND’s reserves.
SIOUX FALLS - South Dakota State held off a late rally from North Dakota State to defeat the Bison 77-75 on the opening night of the CU Mortgage Direct Dakota Showcase at the Sanford Pentagon.
The Jackrabbits (4-2) won their third in a row by building up a 14-point first half lead and never letting the Bison (0-5) catch up. It wasn t that easy, however.
Playing without Summit League Player of the Year Douglas Wilson, the SDSU defense stymied the Bison throughout much of the first half. After falling behind 7-6, the Jacks held NDSU scoreless for the next 7:19 and without a field goal for a stretch of 9:20 in the half.
