Nearly three-quarters of Indigenous people in remote and northern communities say they have issues accessing menstrual products. An Indigenous-led organization just received $2.4 million in funding to address the problem.
Starting this week, a team of outreach staff will drive a branded “Moccasin Mobile Outreach” van along a designated route in Whitehorse making stops at locations including the Whitehorse Emergency Shelter, the Black Street stairs and several parks.
A new Indigenous-led detox and healing centre is being planned for the Whitehorse area, and the Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) hopes to see it built within a few years.
