Every new coronavirus case in Blackburn as all areas bar two record increased infection rate
EVERY area bar two in Blackburn with Darwen has recorded an increase in coronavirus infection rate. The borough has the second highest rate of infection in the country, as the Indian variant continues to spread. According to the latest figures, the area as a whole has a rate of 187.0 cases per 100,000 people, after 280 new cases were discovered the seven days to May 18. That was up from 108.2 cases per 100,000 people over the previous seven days. Every area in the borough recorded an increase in infection rate bar two – North Darwen and Witton, Mill Hill & Hollin Bank.

THE vast majority of areas in Blackburn with Darwen continue to record fewer new coronavirus cases. In five areas, the number of new cases registered in the week to April 5 were so low that no data has been released by the Government, in a bid to protect the identities of those who have contracted the virus. This only applies when fewer than three cases were recorded. Elsewhere infection rates continue to drop, with only a handful of new cases detected in areas such as Ewood and Fenhurst; Central Blackburn and Bastwell.
