Tryon native looking to carry the torch at Shadyside Dragway in Shelby
Alexis Phillips will be racing for more than just pride this weekend at Shelby s Shadyside Dragway.
Phillips will be behind the wheel of a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. But drag racing enthusiasts know the vehicle as “Flower Power,” a car that propelled her aunt, Cynthia Stott, into a star to becoming a household name in the sport.
“I really never considered getting into it until the opportunity was presented to me around January when Cynthia decided she would not be driving this year,” said Phillips.
Stott s is well-recognized in the drag racing industry as her husband, Quain Stott, is the founder of the Southeast Gassers Association, also known as SEGA. Cynthia Stott became known as the first lady of Southeast Gasser, and was a huge part of her husband’s success.
