Residents have fled their homes as Boko Haram terrorists attacked four villages in the southern part of Borno State.
According to local sources who were on the run, the attack was ongoing as of 9pm on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses disclosec that the insurgents rode in at least 10 Toyota Hilux vans, and they were first seen around Mandara Dirau at about 1pm.
The insurgents were said to have proceeded unchallenged through parts of villages identified as Debiro, Tashan Alade, Tirgitu, and Shaffa town shooting sporadically, looting food items, and setting houses ablaze.
Villages attacked are situated within Hawul and Shaffa Local Government Areas of the state.

Ten (10) people, including four security personnel, were reportedly killed on boxing day during an attack by Boko Haram in Shaffa, Azare and Tashan Alade villages in Hawul local government area of Borno State, northeast Nigeria.
The attack in the northeast, which started in Garkida where six people were killed and eleven persons persons on Christmas eve, prompted Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum to visit Hauwul local government on Sunday to condole with the people.
Residents of the area said they had knowledge of the attack on the 21st December, 2020 and informed the security agencies.
“They came in six gun trucks and burnt down five churches, and many houses in our villages” Usman Audu said, adding “They also killed 10 people and injured many others. We all slept in the bush, including our aged parents.”

Troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole at the weekend battled insurgents who attacked three villages in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State, forcing hundreds of villagers to flee to the mountains.
The hostilities started with the attacks by fighters of the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP), who launched attacks on Garkida and surrounding villages in Adamawa State on December 24, and later spilled into Borno State for four days.
Garkida is located in the Gombi LGA of Adamawa State.
THISDAY learnt that the battle between the troops and the insurgents in three villages in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State was still raging as at the time of filling this report.
The villages include Tashan Alade, Shaffa and Khiributu.

Though, Governor Babagana Zulum in a statement by his spokesperson, Isa Gusau, claimed three people were killed, a local security source told SaharaReporters that 10 corpses, mostly men and children, were counted by the villagers.
“The gunmen simply opened fire on both the residents and their livestock. We counted about 10 corpses, mostly men and children,” the source said.
