Nation celebrates Eid amid moon-sighting controversy Controversy revisited: Shawwal moon sighted finally May 13, 2021 LAHORE: The moon-sighting controversy is far from over in Pakistan on every Eid and this year too the nation is celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr amid controversy over moon-sighting at late Wednesday night. The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee meeting in Islamabad lasted more than four hours late on Wednesday night and at 11:30pm, announcement was made about the sighting of moon for the month of Shawwal.  The committee announced that Eidul Fitr will be celebrated across Pakistan on Thursday. The meeting presided over by committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, while representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Meteorological Department were also in attendance.

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee late on Wednesday announced the sighting of moon for the month of Shawwal, saying Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated across Pakistan on Thursday (May 13). The development came after a meeting took place in Islamabad at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony with RHC Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad in the chair. Separate meetings of zonal and district Ruet committees were also held at their respective regional headquarters.
