SIR – The Conservatives’ future looks dire (Letters, May 6). How did they get to this after Boris Johnson delivered an 80-seat majority in 2019? Like it or not, it was Boris as a leader who appealed to voters, but his party chose to ditch him. It is no coincidence that the decline set in then – as they had no replacement with anything like his charisma and ability to get stuff done, despite his chaotic approach. Most Tory voters I know weren’t at all concerned by the nonsense of Partygate, which
SIR – I’ve been asked to sign a petition to strip Paula Vennells, the former chief executive of the Post Office, of her CBE (report, January 6). What I fail to understand is why she was honoured in the first place. It must have been obvious that the Post Office’s handling of the Horizon scandal was grossly incompetent at the highest level.
